D Hawkins
David Hawkins’ degrees are in Physics, specializing in electro-optics. He has worked as a college instructor, then moved into industry as a design engineer, project manager, and eventually into sales & marketing. Throughout he has nurtured an avid interest in the stock market, particularly in applying mathematical techniques to technical analysis.
In 1995 he started learning the MIDAS method of analysis from its founder, fellow physicist Dr Paul Levine, and quickly incorporated these techniques into his software and his trading. Since Levine’s passing, David Hawkins has further expanded upon the MIDAS techniques and has coupled them with other technical analysis tools.
David Hawkins is an active member of the Boston Chapter of the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII), where he co-leads the New England Stocks Group. Over the years he has given numerous presentations to various AAII groups on the MIDAS method and other technical analysis topics. He has published articles on the Thrust Oscillator, the Volume Weighted MACD, other volume related indicators, and has co-written, with Andrew Coles, three articles on the MIDAS Topfinder/Bottomfinder. He is also writing a book on the MIDAS system with Andrew Coles for Bloomberg Press (publication date 2010).
David Hawkins has served as a consultant to several technical analysis software developers on how to code the Topfinder/Bottomfinder algorithm, resulting in one which is now fully functionally and commercially available (see www.stocksharepublishing.com). And soon his consulting work will result in a DLL plugin for the Topfinder/Bottomfinder for Metastock.
