Andrew Coles is a graduate of King’s College London KQC with a First Class Honours degree and a Henry Neville Gladstone Exhibition. He was a recipient of a British Academy Postgraduate Studentship and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the British Academy. For his Master’s and PhD, as well as for his postdoctoral research, he worked at the universities of London and Oxford as well as the Institute of Classical Studies. He has published in his previous academic field and is under contract for a book with Oxford University Press on the early history of the life sciences.
Andrew Coles has a diploma in technical analysis from the UK Society of Technical Analysts (STA-UK) and a diploma in international technical analysis from the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA). He is also a Certified Financial Technician (CFTe).
With a broad background in technical analysis, he specializes in MIDAS, Welles Wilder’s Delta system (for which he has discovered several new timeframes), Elliott Wave theory, DeMark’s TD Sequential suite, and more esoteric approaches. He was requested by IFTA to write the Elliott Wave entry for IFTA’s “Body of Knowledge” project.
He is mainly a short-term trader while writing on technical forecasting for publications such as Technical Analysis of STOCKS & COMMODITIES.
He is writing a book on the MIDAS system with David Hawkins for Bloomberg Press (publication date 2010).
His most recent MIDAS-related research project is a new channel indicator based on the MIDAS algorithm he has called the MIDAS Displacement Channel for sideways (congested) markets. An article discussing this indicator is forming in Technical Analysis for STOCKS & COMMODITIES.
